What is pH?
pH is the chemical symbol for Hydrogen Potential. It indicates the concentration of hydrogen ions in aqueous solutions and determines their acidity or alkalinity. It is measured in variable values from 0 (most acidic) to 14 (most alkaline). The 7 represents a neutral value equivalent to that of pure water and a newborn.
Why is it important to take care of the pH?
Maintaining a balanced pH is essential for the body to function correctly. The body needs an alkaline blood value, between 7.35 and 7.45. A small alteration or excess of acidity could lead to a general imbalance. However, each organ has its own balance and the pH can be different from that of blood.

- Skin: 4.5 - 5.7
- Bile: 7.5 - 8.6
- Stomach: 1.2 - 3.2
Why should we respect the pH of the skin?
The skin protects the body from infections and external agents. Its protective capacity depends on the pH of the hydrolipidic mantle, a mixture of fatty acids and sweat that covers the outermost layer. Ideally, it should have an acidic pH of 5.5, although it can vary depending on the area of the body and skin type. In fact, some studies show how some skins below 5 contain greater hydration and bacterial flora than those above 5.
An alteration in the pH of the hydrolipid mantle can cause skin problems. Washing is one of the things that affects the most.
