Sun with Awareness: How to Protect Your Skin from Overexposure to the Sun

Feeling the sun on your skin can be comforting and revitalizing. However, prolonged exposure without adequate protection can leave invisible marks that, over time, permanently affect your skin's health.
At GGcare, we believe that well-being begins with knowledge. That's why, in this article, we'll tell you what overexposure to the sun is, what its risks are, and how you can care for your skin consciously, naturally, and effectively.
What is sun overexposure?
Overexposure to the sun occurs when the skin receives an excessive amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, especially without adequate protection. This radiation can penetrate the deeper layers of the skin and damage its cells, causing both short- and long-term effects.
Risks of excessive sun exposure:
- Sunburns: immediate damage, inflammation, redness and sensitivity.
- Spots and uneven pigmentation: prolonged exposure stimulates uncontrolled melanin production.
- Photoaging: premature wrinkles, loss of elasticity and dull tone.
- Deep cellular damage: UV radiation can alter cellular DNA, increasing the risk of more serious diseases such as skin cancer.
How to protect your skin every day?
1. Sunscreen: your daily ally
Use broad spectrum sun protection (UVA + UVB), with a minimum SPF of 20.
Apply it even on cloudy days or when you are in the shade.
Reapply every 2 hours if you are outdoors, sweating, or going into the water.
2. Dress to protect yourself
Opt for lightweight but long-sleeved clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses with UV protection.
There are garments with built-in sun protection, ideal for outdoor activities.
3. Avoid peak radiation hours
Between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm, the sun is at its strongest.
Seek shade or do your outdoor activities early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
4. Hydrate your skin (and your body)
The sun can dry out your skin and accelerate water loss.
Use moisturizing creams with calming ingredients such as chamomile or calendula.
Drink enough water throughout the day to maintain internal balance.
Take care of your skin with natural ingredients
At GGcare, we're committed to skincare with natural ingredients that soothe, protect, and regenerate. Some of our favorites for after-sun care:
Rosehip oil: helps repair damaged tissue and improves elasticity.
Vitamin E: a key antioxidant to neutralize free radicals generated by the sun.
Sun exposure doesn't have to be harmful if done responsibly. Incorporating daily habits of sun protection, hydration, and after-sun care can make a big difference to the long-term health and appearance of your skin.
