Stress is defined as a feeling of physical or emotional tension. It is true that in small amounts stress can benefit us. We test ourselves and it helps us avoid certain dangerous situations, meet a deadline at work... But the problem is that, often, stress persists, damaging our health.

Stress and skin, how are they connected?
The skin is closely linked to our nervous system, which causes the body to release neurotransmitters in situations of stress, , affecting various organs in our body. Mayte Truchuelo, dermatologist at the Vithas International Dermatological Institute in Madrid says:
“Stress influences the skin through different mechanisms. Fundamentally, it modifies the immune system, lowering the skin's defenses while activating other pathways of skin inflammation, and also stimulates the production of adrenaline and corticosteroids that, by acting on the skin's receptors, exert changes in it. Furthermore, all inflammatory skin diseases worsen with stress.”
The most common causes of stress on our skin are:
-
Dermatitis: Skin irritation. Usually, it presents in the form of dry skin, a swollen and red skin rash.
-
Psoriasis: It is a common and chronic disease. It causes red, scaly patches on the skin.
-
Vitiligo: This disease causes loss of skin color in spots. It can affect any part of the body, including the hair and the inside of the mouth.
-
Rosacea: Rosacea can be confused with acne, since it is a condition that causes redness, visible blood vessels on the face and can also produce small red bumps filled with pus.
